Asbestos Removal

ARE YOU AWARE THAT CURRENT (April 1st 2012) HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE (HSE) GUIDANCE AND GOVERNMENT LEGISLATION REQUIRES ALL OF THE FOLLOWING STIPULATIONS TO BE SATISFIED BY ANY CONTRACTORS CARRYING OUT THE REMOVAL AND/OR DISPOSAL OF ANY BOUND MATERIALS CONTAINING ASBESTOS (ie ASBESTOS CEMENT)?

  • All operatives handling Asbestos Containing Products (ACM’s) should have specific training in removal techniques for non-notifiable Asbestos;
  • All operatives should have face-fit tests for their Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE);
  • All operatives PPE and RPE should be appropriate for working with ACM’s;
  • All operatives working with ACM’s must be certified as medically fit AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 3 YEARS
  • Sites with more than 500kg of ACM’s (including domestic properties) must be registered with the Environment Agency prior to removal/disposal of the materials;
  • All waste must be consigned as “Hazardous”, and the Waste Carrier must be licenced by the Environment Agency;
  • Contractors should carry specific Insurance for non-notifiable Asbestos removal works;
  • All projects should have Site Specific Method Statements and Risk Assessments ;
  • All sites upon which the removal of ACM’s is likely to cause breakage MUST BE NOTIFIED TO THE HSE PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF THEIR REMOVALS
